Art in the public realm
Nils Norman, whose project at Homerton was included in the a-n Collection: Playing up, is one of the artists illustrated in Open space: art in the public realm, published in May. Produced by Arts Council England, the publication covers art in the public realm in London 1995-2005.
It is both a celebration of the role of art in the public realm and a practical guide for potential clients. Highlighting thirty-six projects in the capital, this 216 page book contains detailed advice on the commissioning process, from how to develop a brief through to project management, contracts and maintenance.
It is intended that the book should become a point of reference for all potentially involved in the public art commissioning including agencies, developers and local authorities.
Costing £25, Open space: art in the public realm can be purchased from www.openhouse.org.uk
