‘Goldfinger’ continues Faisal Abdu’Allah’s recurring interest in reconfiguring representations of masculinity, criminality and the nature of power.

The work was developed via a four-year dialogue with legendary underworld figure and head of the ‘Firm’, Joey Pyle (1935-2007). Abdu’Allah’s investigation and negotiations into Pyle’s ‘criminal elite’ networks evolves from the artist’s constant redefinition of collaborative, socially and politically engaged practice and the terms by which they operate.

AIR member Faisal Abdu’Allah graduated from the RCA in 1993 and works primarily in photography, the printed image and lens-based installations. a-n subscribers can log-in to read Time to think and space to talk, an article by Rohini Malik Okon from the a-n archives [First published: a-n Magazine January 2004] that explores his relationship with The Agency Contemporary.

‘Goldfinger’ is at Cafe Gallery, London till 4 November.
