Safle commission
AIR member Jim Sadler has recently completed a commission in Orielton Wood in Barmouth, West Wales. Merioneth Paradoxides was commissioned by Safle (formally Artworks Wales / Cywaith Cymru)
The project started as a residency and evolved into a commission for a permanent sculpture sited in the recently landscaped woods. Jim took an interest in local ecology and pursued research with help from The National Museum of Wales. His work, which spans furniture and sculpture for indoor and outdoor spaces, is designed and handmade from natural materials like green oak to man made stainless steel. The finished piece in Orielton Wood, made from marine quality stainless steel, is an abstracted version of the Trilobite which once lived in the sea off the North Wales coast.
Funding from Arts Council Wales, and Cyd Coed (Woodlands for All) was secured by Barmouth Enviromental Conservation Group with help from Chairman Allen Ashby.
