I lie awake at night and listen to birds singing
‘I lie awake at night and listen to birds singing' is a new body of work by Steffan Jones-Hughes, made over the past three years, which explores the fragility of life, place, relationships and time.
There is something about storytelling that relies on the retelling of tales, passing them on. In his new exhibition Steffan Jones-Hughes is looking at different ways of telling stories. The exhibition features bookworks, reworkings of the Guardian guide, objects, prints, drawings and paintings.
Steffan explains: "The work explores a personal landscape made up of characters but the artist is happy for the viewer to interpret them as they wish. This often says more about the viewer than the artist. What if I could become a bird? I could go through life not worrying about the fragility of the world and what might happen."
The Exhibition and the artist's profile can be viewed here.
The exhibition at Oriel Wrecsam / Wrexham Arts Centre includes drawing, painting, printmaking, bookworks and objects. It opens on the artist's 40th Birthday, the 29th August and can be seen until 11th October 2008. For more information visit the Wrexham Arts Cenre website here.
Steffan's work can also be seen in the Double Vision Exhibition at Canolfan Ucheldre / Ucheldre Centre in Holyhead from 5th September 2008.
