Conscious Void - Collaboration

By: Cat Preston

Recent Nottingham Trent MA Fine Art Graduates Cat Preston and Lucy Stevens are collobarating on the first of a series of creative projects. Fusing textile embroidery and binaural sound, Conscious Void examines the notions of the empty gallery space.

Using the Upstairs Gallery at The City Gallery, Leicester as a host, the installation allows visitors to interact with the physical environment and listen to sound that has been created specifically for the site.

Using a repetitive pattern of machine embroidery the textile installation will form a walk way for the sound installation produced by Stevens. Concerned with the endurance of creation the creative process will embrace beauty with connotations of life and death. Cultivating an endurance of personal vision by expressing it within a material language. Creating the work for the Upstairs gallery has resulted in many hours sat within the space, discussing and understanding how the two disciplines can be drawn together and also work as individual creations.

It is important to create a space that the audience can encounter and appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of the process involved.
