Visual art exhibitions and events with a platform for critical writing

Print Box Proposal - The theme of this project will be ‘Place’. We will work around the ideas, issues and images generated by Landscape, Coast and Gardens. Within these subject areas, the ideas of transformation and transition will be considered, alongside an examination of the impact of man and of natural forces on a place or group of places.

The Regional Print Centre at Yale College in Wrexham is a joint partnership project between Yale College and the Arts Council of Wales. We provide open access printmaking facilities to artists and designers from across Wales and beyond. This project forms part of our unique professional printmaking diploma programme.

...have been thinking must add an update to this soon ...been busy putting together work on this theme"place" from my collaborative project that I've been doing with an Irish Printmaker...we've been exploring land use and associations with it ,concentrated on the Boglands around my printing partner's home in County Kildare and the slate quarries around mine in North Wales.It's been interesting to discovr certain similarities in these themes for us both ....more soon ...Linda

started to work on images around place..i like the quality of the images on the back of the peeled back newsprint from soft ground etch drawings..

Sometimes walking amongst the trees there seems to me to be a presence. It is this sense that I have tried to capture with shadowy relief figures that are part woodcut, part collagraph.

....seeing the markings in the landscape previously posted (white arrow) reminded me of some I took a while back in the forest...they always feel a little mysterious to me...waymarkers - symbols - some sort of code ?....LD

When thinking about the images that come from exploring a sense of "place" I find they are full of the traces, memories and ghosts of those who have lived and worked in the landscape. I have begun to explore how those ideas might be communicated through print.

We had a meeting today and Pam suggested we could integrate some of the writing we did in the woods with Jill Teague into our work. We thought this was a good idea and think we should work on a collaborative book project. Caroline showed us a really good way to make a three dimensional origami book form. I thought we should work on a format that we can produce a digital bookform from. We agreed to try to focus on the books on March 6th. SJH
