Print Box Project: 'Place'

By: The Regional Print Centre at Yale Wrexham

Print Box Proposal - The theme of this project will be ‘Place’. We will work around the ideas, issues and images generated by Landscape, Coast and Gardens. Within these subject areas, the ideas of transformation and transition will be considered, alongside an examination of the impact of man and of natural forces on a place or group of places.

# 20 [31 January 2008]

We had a meeting today and Pam suggested we could integrate some of the writing we did in the woods with Jill Teague into our work. We thought this was a good idea and think we should work on a collaborative book project. Caroline showed us a really good way to make a three dimensional origami book form. I thought we should work on a format that we can produce a digital bookform from. We agreed to try to focus on the books on March 6th. SJH

This project is really gaining momentum now. I love the post box photos Nichola has put on the blog. I think we are all going to do something similar. We need to get more photos on the blog. SJH

went for a walk and noticed how we make our marks on the landscape

I have explored images of memories and memorials. Linking to the very ground of 'place'   hp

Slate passed through fire and trees shaped by weather. I have used some of my photographs to explore the material of 'Place'  hp

Last Christmas I was on a mountain in the Alpujarras away from shops, family, television. This year I am shopping, cooking and will be eating and drinking too much and watching too much television. Last month I was looking at Snowdon and last week walking in the forest again. I can go back to the mountains and the forest in my head whenever i want.

Offa built a dyke.

I keep crossing the border from England into Wales and trying to understand what it means to me to be in a different 'Place'

A different country with a different language and identity. What artwork will result?

Thoughts from Portmeirion and Llanberis JB

PLACE

Pink and pretty, turquoise and white.

Distant mountains, brilliant light.

Arches, doorways, tapered trees,

Lawns and pillars, slight sea breeze.

Pathways, steps, crisp cut lines,

Windows, flowers, hanging signs.

Lost in time and in pleasure, stay forever!

.

Huge and square in shades of grey.

Silence bleakness, cloudy day.

Tracks and scars and piles of slate.

Dead and grim, lonely state.

Abandoned tools, empty trains,

Rusty metal, broken chains.

Lost in time. Want to SHOUT. LET ME OUT!

i am obsessed with the places we went to. i went back and was bashed by hailstones in the woods, the beautiful coral fungi was flattened. i saw the island in the mist and portmeirion at night. i saw an egret, oystercatchers and heard the curlews over the estuary. p.

hi,

I just thought that I would add this picture onto the blog; it was so unique in its environment and the colour it so vibrant, it has definately sparked my imagination!
