Ground Control - DIY Art School

By: Rachel Sinclair

Ground Control is the testing ground for our idea of what is possible in terms of a DIY art school with an approach to developing our art practices inspired by the experimental and radical approaches of the 60's and 70's no longer possible with the constraints of assessment criteria and learning outcomes.  We are arranging events and collaborative art projects with an approach based on freedom, discovery, and engagement.

# 1 [6 March 2008]

Watch out for our first public art project called Scattering Elephants.

60 Minute Legally Authorised Non-Demonstration, Saturday 19th April, 10am-11am, Parliament Square On Saturday the 19th April at 10am, and for one hour only, Parliament Square will again witness a demonstration relating to - and this time celebrating the impending partial departure of - the much reviled Serious Organised Crimes and Police Act 2005 (SOCPA). Artist Diccon Spain, supported by Rachel Jenman and Jill Holder of experimental art collective Ground Control, will be presenting a new art performance piece simply titled 60 Minute Legally Authorised Non-Demonstration. It may not be clear to viewer's and passers-by what this is all about as the Artist will be holding a completely blank protest placard and will remain absolutely silent. 60 Minute Legally Authorised Non-Demonstration signifies and plays with social expectations of demonstration. From 11am-12pm the Artist will be free to discuss the work with viewers and passers-by.
