'You are Here.'

By: Emma Titcombe

By this time in my life surely I should be doing the school run in my slippers and cutting small peoples hair with blunt scissors whilst under the influence of gin slurring “Mummy thinks you look lovely.” All this whilst cooking a scrumptious tea, knocking up some plum duff and trimming the roses around the door...

# 1 [11 February 2008]

Have started to document a project that I am working on called 'You are here.' It is based at my little allotment in Jericho. The aim is to create a large arrow head in which I will grow wild flowers that points towards a circular red seat. Have you got it yet? It's somewhere for me to sit with my eyes shut when the sun's out and think about nothing.

Yesterday I found myself trudging down to the allotment in the lovely sunshine. This time i remembered the importance of sandwiches and tea. Still concerned about how much flask tea smells...

I've recently created an extra day in the week to work in my studio so wanted to think about new ideas for my practise.

After much shovelling wood chip to make paths I suddenly realised I was already working on something new - the allotment but with a twist. It would be a good antidote to my endless online searches for affordable properties. Last weeks resulted in two static caravans and a piggery.

Decided it would be really good to document how I get on as well as the usual allotment comings and goings. I've called the project 'You are here.' It came out of thinking about my life right now and will be interesting to see what happens over the next year...

Hi Emma, yeh tea in a flask does smell a little funny. I dont worry though, it is welcome after outdoor work and stuff. A friend of mine has recently got an allotement but i think he had a bonfire at the wrong time and was made to feel bad about it, then something else happened and I think he wants to leave. shame! will read more about yours rob
