# 4 [19 May 2008]

More work...less play makes the work less developed. As soon as things become too considered, the meaning is lost. I'm becoming frustrated with the insinuation that painting 'intuitively' means without intellectual awareness. Inspired now by Polke and Kitaj, its time to keep ploughing on regardless. Knowledge should be child's play - for without an innocent inquisitiveness work becomes contrived. Try explaining that in a program of study, and well presented research! Here's hoping the last four uninterrupted days in the studio produce miracles!

# 3 [7 May 2008]

Its all getting out of hand....paintings a go go, and black fingernails until the show. I keep mixing up real characters with false or historic. Each with their own hidden meaning for me. The question is whether the variants of paint translate the historicism...

# 1 [25 April 2008]

My private rebellion against mainstream 'statement' orientated art has manifested itself in the traditions of painting and writing. I allude to narrative, with an awareness of the inevitable illusion of aesthetics. We should be searching continually for answers. This rebuke of fact is not escapism or fantasy, it is revisionism and reality.
