Hereford College of Arts

By: Angela Howard

I currently have a Foundation Degree in Fine Art and will now study for 1 year to achieve the B.A ( Hons) Fine Art.

# 21 [1 December 2008]

It's the 1st of December and I'm still trying to finalize my Proposal for the rest of the year.  There are so many questions raising their heads.  Is it paint? Is it form? Is it perpective? Is it scale?  Or is it something to do with the subject matter? etc. etc.  What am I really exploring?   Time for even more reflection!!!!

# 20 [27 November 2008]

I have been busy researching opportunities to help me when I leave college. I am investigating a creative industries 'start up' course to help me develop my career and business knowledge. The reality of how little time is left is beginning to hit home and then the hard part!

488697 Hi Angela does the pursuit of the creative industries start up course mean you will have to become process based and offer a process based practice, to fit within the creative industries business model ? Andrew.

I am planning to see what my images look like in different formats. Do I have to paint my images or am I happy having my images reproduced for me. What is special to me about my work!

# 18 [18 November 2008]

Now that my last unit is over it is time to start considering what I will do next. I have started to think about what is important in my paintings the image, the type of paints used or the surface I can create. I still think image is key with my work and I am exploring scale.

We had a very interesting talk today by an established Welsh artist called Chris Griffin. It was fascinating to see how his work had developed and the influences that he drew from to create his art. It made me reflect upon my own studio practice and think about the art I wish to produce and the ongoing dilemma about creating marketable paintings verses creation of ones own driven work which may not be marketable at all!! An ongoing point to be considered all the time.

I feel the ideas of perception on which I based my object for the module 'Ritual and Ceremony' have strong links with my topic for my dissertation and also my own studio practice.

# 15 [11 November 2008]

I had the assessment for the unit based around 'Ritual and Ceremony' today. I feel it went well. I am looking forward to the feedback. I really enjoyed working in sculpture since this is not a medium I have explored very much before and since it's a departure from my use of paint.

This week I have been finalising my proposal for my studio practice for the rest of the year.

I will continue with paint and plan to concentrate on form and perspective within the composition.

I am thinking about what I really want form and perspective to do and how I can use them more successfully in my exploration of organic growth and natural forms.

I have been busy with my current unit on 'Ritual and Ceremony'. This object is to aid my own personal ritual and this has meant the creation of a perception machine. Though it is a work in progress I will update you all on further developments.

I am excited by organic growth and natural forms.  My ideas and work are based around my own perception of nature and my surroundings.  I am particularly interested in the shapes, forms and colours found in this subject.  At present, I am concerned with areas of flat colour and how colour associations affect each other and indeed pictorial space.  Balance of line, shape and colour within my paintings is very important to me.  I feel it contributes towards an integral and cohesive composition.
