Visual art exhibitions and events with a platform for critical writing
Rosemary Shirley is Online Editor of Interface. An artist and writer, she studied Fine Art at Winchester School of Art and MA Contemporary Art Theory at Goldsmiths. She writes regularly for a-n Magazine and has had work published in Contemporary, Circa and international publications such as Belgium based Context K. She has also written numerous essays for exhibition catalogues. She teaches regularly on an MA course at Birkbeck, University of London and delivers lectures at universities around the UK.
In 2005 she initiated and continues to edit Leisure Centre an artists' fanzine, which has a network of subscribers and is distributed in art galleries around the UK. Over the past year Leisure Centre has been featuring in KIOSK an exhibition touring galleries worldwide including the ICA in London and venues in Berlin and Vancouver.
From 2002 - 2005 Rosemary set up and managed an Artists' Resource Centre (ARC) at Aspex Gallery in Portsmouth, which continues to provide high quality professional development opportunities for artists.
She is currently undertaking research at the University of Sussex for a Phd, looking at contemporary artists' engagement with the non-metropolitan everyday.
