Lowsalt

1/R, 49 West Princes Street, GLASGOW, G4 9BS

www.lowsalt.org.uk/

A Glasgow-based artist-led not-for profit organisation. Founded in 2006, the group initially inhabited a shop front in the Saltmarket area of Glasgow, which had existed as a gallery and creative space in previous years. A series of five exhibitions were programmed within a twelve week period, from March through June. The success of this series of exhibitions and the interest generated led to an invitation to participate in the Supermarket Art Fair, Stockholm, as well as other potential projects with artist run spaces in Belfast and Vancouver. Lowsalt’s essential focus is on creativity and experimentation. Its aim is to promote and facilitate emerging, student and established artists across a broad range of disciplines. Lowsalt provides opportunities for artists to produce and show work within a free and professional environment specialising in group, thematic and spatial contexts. Opening up critical discussion and an experimental approach to exhibition, Lowsalt seeks to provide a social and professional focus for contemporary artists based in Glasgow and beyond. Lowsalt is based on a core team of two practicing artists, Krisdy Shindler and Rebecca Anson, acting as programming and curatorial facilitators, providing all aspects of exhibition/project organisation including: fundraising, equipment, pr and marketing, and project location acquisition. In December 2006, Lowsalt was awarded a NAN Go and See bursary to travel to travel to Stockholm for research and development on the ?upermarket?project.
